The Different Pronoun Cases

Nominative Case

The nominative (also called subjective) case pronoun functions as the subject of sentence, or as the subject complement (predicate noun).

·        She came to the house.

·        Who has seen the wind?

·        I am she. (in response to an inquiry)

·        This is she.

Object Case

The object case pronoun functions as a direct or indirect object, or as an object of a preposition.

·        I gave her a necklace.

·        I sold it to them.

·        I don’t know to whom I speak.

·        The book is beside him.

Possessive Case

The possessive case pronoun indicate possession.

·        That is my hat.

·        That bag is mine.

·        Her mother receives a gift.

·        The pleasure was all hers.
