Verb and Kinds of Verb
Using Verb Tenses
SimpleTense – to show repeated action, belief, opinion, characteristics.
1. Simple past – to show what happened at a time in the past and is finished.
2. Simple future – to show what will happen in the future.
Progressive Form
1. Present progressive form – to show an event that is going on right now. (am, is, are + verb + ing)
2. Past progressive form – to show an event that was going on when something else happened (often uses before, after, when).
(was / were + verb + ing)
3. Future progressive form – to show an event that will be going on when something else happens.
(will be + verb + ing)
Perfect Tense
1. Present perfect tense – to show what has happened in the past and continues in the present; to show how long something has happened (often uses for and since).
(have / has + past participle)
2. Past perfect tense – to show an action in the past that happened even before another event in the past.
(had + past participle)
3. Future perfect tense – to show something that has not yet been done but that will be done before a set time in the future.
(will have + past participle)
4. Present perfect progressive – to show how long something has been happening and is still happening.
(have / has + been + verb + ing)
5. Past perfect progressive – to show how long something has been happening before something else happened.
(had + been + verb + ing)
6. Future perfect progressive – to show how long something will have been happening by a future time.
(will have + been + verb + ing)
Transitive and Intransitive Verb
Transitive Verb – need a receiver of the action to complete their meaning. This receiver of the action is called the direct object.
Ex. Lanna sang a song.
Intransitive Verbs – do not have a receiver of the action.
Ex. Birds fly.
