A superstition is a false belief based on ignorance.
The superstructure is faith and the dome is a vain hope.
   –To believe in spite of evidence or without evidence.
   –To account for one mystery by another.
   –To believe that mind created and controls matter.
   –To disregard the true relation between cause and effect.
   –To believe in miracles, spells and charms, in dreams and prophecies.
   –To believe in the supernatural.

  • Crossing your fingers as soon as you speak of something fortunate coming up, or about to come up, in your life.

  • By making the sign of the cross, you stop the evil spirits from stealing your good fortune.

  • If you blow out all of the candles on your birthday cake with the first breath, your wish will come true.

  • Knocking on wood when you mention about a lucky streak, or about a firm expectation of something neat and wonderful happening soon.  good spirits lived in trees, and that by knocking on anything made of wood, we invoke their help to protect our good luck.

  • A pregnant woman should not walk over a grace, otherwise, her baby will die.

  • To ease the difficulty of a pregnant woman in childbirth, her husband must go downstairs by crawling.

  • Keep the baby’s lock of hair from his or her first haircut between the pages of a book; this will endow the child with a high IQ.

  • If a dog howls while baby is being born, that baby is doomed to lead an evil life.

  • A child who sits on a book, especially on a stack of books, is believed to become dull.

  • A dog howling at the door is an omen of death.

  • The soul of a dying person can not escape the body and go to heaven if the doors are locked in the house.

  • When there is death in the family, all mirrors in the house must be covered or the person who sees her or his reflection in the uncovered mirror is the next to die.

  • At the moment of death, all windows should be opened to allow the soul to depart.

  • A dead person’s eyes must not be left open; otherwise, he will find someone to take along with him to the land of the dead.

  • All outstanding debts must be settled before the old year out, or you will be in debt throughout the coming New Year.

  • All wallets must have plenty of money to guarantee prosperity through-out the coming year.

  • Make as much noise as you can in order to frighten the evil spirits lurking by the door.

  • Greet the new year with a fruit bowl containing twelve kinds of round fruits, the better to represent gold, or wealth.  each fruit stands for each month of the year.
