Singapore is a city state on an island at the southern tip of the
Malay peninsula. The town dates back to the 5th century, but its main development started with the arrival of Thomas Raffles in 1819. Since then Singapore has rapidly become a major business and trading centre, and has now the most active port in
SE Asia. It is also a shoppers paradise, with a huge concentration of shopping complexes.
Singapore is predominantly Chinese.
The moment you land on Changi airport you know you have arrived in shopping heaven.
Singapore welcomes you and your dollars.
Getting around
Singapore is easy, the MRT subways will bring you to all the important shopping centers in the city. The MRT is fast, cheap and always on time, you never wait longer than 5 minutes for the next train to arrive.
Singapore has an abundance of shopping centers, just to list the main areas, Bugis Junction, China town, Little India, Clark Quay and Riverside, Marina bay, Orchard road, Arab street, Kampong Glam, Geylang Serai, North Bridge Road and Sheraton way, to name a few. Often around the main shopping areas you find small streets filled with a variety of arts and cultural shopping. Definitely worth the visit. Don’t miss Holland Village & Dempsey Road antiques. If you’re into handicraft, another interesting shopping area to explore is Holland V. With its mix of fantastic cafes, pubs and eateries,
Holland
Village is also dubbed
Singapore’s "bohemian enclave". The tiny windmill on a house reminds you of its origin. This is also where you can find a variety of shops selling well-made souvenirs and handicrafts, from
Bali inspired crafts to Chinese silks.
From a traditional point of view, do not miss little
India, the colors and the smells bring back memories of ancient old cultures and traditions. Vivo shopping mall is the latest of them all, and the MRT stops inside the mall. A mega mega mall, with thousands of square feet of shopping adventure.
The whole of Singapore is a Chinatown, as
Singapore is predominantly Chinese.
