Dr. Cabrera is one of our scientists who have continually made researches on possible ways of preventing diseases.  One of his best-known studies is on filariasis, a tropical disease.  Filariasis is caused by small roundworms transmitted by mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects.  Dr. Cabrera studied the life cycle of these roundworms and the ways by which they were transmitted to man.  His studies helped in developing ways of preventing the disease.  For this research, Dr. Cabrera was honored with the Philippine Legion of Honor in 1966.
